  • 1 pound ground beef (80% lean)
  • ½ tsp. garlic powder
  • ½ tsp. onion powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil
  • 4 burger buns

Instructions
 

  • Heat your Traeger grill indirectly to 225°F (107°C).
  • Add the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, olive oil, and onion powder to a mixing bowl. Don't overmix, as overmixing can make the burgers tough.
  • Shape each portion into a patty about 3/4-inch thick by dividing the mixture into four equal portions.
  • Each patty must be pressed slightly with your thumb to avoid puffing up while cooking.
  • On the grill grates, place the patties and close the lid. You should smoke them for about 1 hour at 225°F (107°C).
  • Smoky flavor will be infused into the patties as they cook low and slow.
  • Increase the Traeger grill temperature to 375°F (190°C) after 1 hour and cook the burger patties for an additional 5-7 minutes per side.
  • You can melt cheese slices on top of the patties during the last few minutes of cooking.
  • Let the burger patties rest for a few minutes after removal from the grill.
