Soft Sourdough Rolls Recipe

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup active sourdough starter
  • 1-1/2 cups lukewarm water
  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1-1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tbsp. Sugar
  • 2 tbsp. Olive oil

Instructions
 

  • Make sure your sourdough starter is active and bubbly. A day before starting your rolls, feed it with equal parts flour and water if it has been stored in the refrigerator.
  • Combine lukewarm water, olive oil, and sourdough starter in a large mixing bowl. Combine well.
  • Combine the flour, salt, and sugar in a separate bowl. Stir continuously as you add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients.
  • On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 10 minutes or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise at room temperature for 4-6 hours or until it doubles in size.
  • Divide the dough into equal portions and shape it into rounds. Bake the rolls on a parchment-lined baking sheet, making sure they are close but not touching.
  • Let them rise for another 2-3 hours covered with a cloth.
  • While the rolls are rising, preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Before baking, score the tops of the rolls with a sharp knife. In this way, the dough can expand properly in the oven.
  • Once the rolls are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped, bake them for 20-25 minutes.
  • Let the sourdough rolls cool on a wire rack for at least 15 minutes before enjoying a crispy crust and tangy, airy interior.
